Conceptualized in 2015 by co-founder Guy Zyskind, Enigma is a technology that protects the privacy of data while still allowing for computations to overrun that data. Enigma is an off-chain network envisioned to complement the blockchain network by providing secondary layer data storage and computation.
Enigma is focused on providing privacy and confidentiality to users. It does this by encrypting a user’s data before sending it off network which means data is distributed across nodes thus keeping it private. Therefore, the blockchain only holds proof of the data, not the data itself, meaning that the data is kept confidential on an off-chain network.
